Great action shot of the pelican, Steve. What shutter speed was that, if you know?

I don't know - but I do know where to look it up: the exposure time was 1/640 sec.
Not sure what setting on the camera that this would correspond to...

Thanks, that's it. I'm always curious as to good shutter speeds for freezing action so I know what to set my camera to if I'm shooting sports, for example. I think I read you need a minimum speed of 1/150 or 1/250 sec., which of course will need to be set faster to capture faster action.
