For the Week 13 Photo Hunt challenge, a shot of our mantle decorated for Christmas.
And here are the finished kiffles!
Kifli (or Kiffles, as we've come to know them) are German cookies consisting of a pastry dough rolled around a walnut filling, then doused in confectioner's sugar. They have been a tradition in my family for generations, and we look forward to them every Christmas. [I don't have time to type up the recipe right now, but a similar one can be found here.]
For the Week 11 Photo Hunt challenge: the cotter pin that holds the left side of my lawnmower handle.
Taken during my jaunt to Kelly Drive to find a megaphone: for a few minutes, I watched this guy and his dog as they watched the world go by - by foot, bike and boat.
For this week's Photo Hunt, challenge - a leather-bound book, I dug out my well-worn copy of "Fighting Jets" from the Time-Life Epic of Flight series that I got as a gift from my aunt in my early teens.
This harried young man echoed my own sense of urgency as I tried to find a suitable photo for this week's Photo Hunt challenge: a skull cap (with bonus points for it being worn, being a yarmulka, and for varied coloration).Update – 11/28/06
(I know that snapshot gratitude has felt my pain on at least one occasion!)
As the weeks go by, it seems my goal for each challenge falls into one of the following categories
a. try to capture the subject in a smartly-composed, well-executed (dare I say artistic) manner, or
b. to hell with the art, rack up the bonus points.
I think I’ve approached this Platonic ideal a couple of times, most notably here and here. But sometimes, it’s just not in the cards and you make do with what you have.
Maybe it was the difficulty I had getting it (see my Comments for that story). Maybe it’s because I typically don’t photograph people, unless they’re doing something really interesting (like this).
I guess you guys see something in this shot that I don’t. Maybe this is art after all… ? (The jury will take a while with that one... Meanwhile, I'll still be Finding My Way...)

From this past weekend's Philadelphia Area Photobloggers trip up to Ricketts Glen, a view of the scenery north of Benton, PA.
While visiting friends in the Hudson Valley this past weekend, I spotted this tiny leaf on their back deck.
For this week's Photo Hunt, a shot of the window display from the Nirvana clothing store in Red Bank.
From a sparsley attended Philadelphia Area Photobloggers jaunt this past January, this is a gravestone in St. Peter's Cemetery, which dates back to 1761. It had been raining at the start of our meet-up, leaving great reflective puddles like this one.
For my entry into this first "official" Photo Hunt week (with the subject "Something New"), I've decided to go against the grain of entries dealing with new buildings, baby animals & baby people. Instead, here's the "New Releases" Section of Jack's Music Shoppe in Red Bank, NJ.
Back in June we went to a party on the Atlantic City bay, and were treated to this great view of the skyline as the sun set. I'm submitting this as my "Building" entry into this week's Photo Hunt.
I had the opportunity to attend the Vintage Aircraft Day & Classic Car Show at Wings Airfield in Blue Bell, PA today. This amazing hood ornament was from a 1941 Cadillac 62D Sedan. I got some other cool shots of planes and cars, but this was the obvious "shot of the day."
As promised, here's the in-focus mantis in all its water-droplet glory. A cooler photo than the original, but not exactly the right for the Photo Hunt.

The top 2 photos are from Wildwood's amusement piers. They were taken the same day as the Lighthouse photos below, that day's beautiful blue sky turning into a brilliant sunset.
